One positive effect of the pandemic? It’s put a brighter light on mental health issues – including anxiety, depression, addiction and other challenges – and the importance of seeking help when you need it. For caregivers of older adults, a loved one’s mental health issues may not even be realized—or may simply take a backseat to other pressing daily needs.
An upcoming online webinar will explore mental health issues and provide a forum for caregivers to discuss their particular experiences and share strategies for coping to help others in a similar role. “Caring for Someone with Mental Health Issues” will be held Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. EST (10 a.m. CST) and is free to attend.
The event will be led by Elliot Montgomery Sklar, PhD, MS, and Lucy Barylak, MSW. Sklar is a public health professional and an associate professor in the Department of Health Science at Nova Southeastern University. Barylak is a social gerontology consultant with West-Central Montreal Health in Montreal, Canada.
The program is hosted by the WellMed Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 2006 that offers programs for seniors and caregivers. The foundation is the philanthropic partner of WellMed Medical Management.
